Left Hand Water District (LHWD) has served customers in rural Boulder and Weld Counties since the early 1960s. The service area of LHWD is generally bounded by Longmont on the north, Boulder on the south, Interstate 25 on the east and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains along Highway 119 on the west. LHWD treats water from both the Lefthand Creek watershed and through water rights with the Colorado-Big Thompson project. LHWD is very active with the Lefthand Watershed Oversight Group working to protect native water supplies in the local basin.
District engineers noted in 2017 that a portion of their system that supplies emergency interconnect flows to Longmont, including areas along Highway 119 and I-25, were exhibiting low pressures. Future build-out water demand in these areas would require higher pressures. In order to accomplish this, LHWD would connect
this portion of the system to a 6-million-gallon tank, capable of providing pressure in the range required.
