Transportation Structures

The Tyfo® system provides many retrofit solutions for vital civil infrastructure and has been used extensively on bridges, tunnels, elevated roadways, airports and other transportation infrastructure all over the world.

The Tyfo® system can be used to strengthen transportation infrastructure for the following reasons:

  • Increase load ratings
  • Seismic retrofit of structural components
  • Rehabilitation of corroded or distressed members
  • Maintain the appearance and overall aesthetics of historic bridges
  • Extend service life
  • Emergency repairs
  • Construction error remediation

The very first research conducted on the Tyfo® system in the 1980s was on bridge columns for added strength and confinement. These tests were quite successful and led to the development of design procedures for various columns, beams/pier caps, walls, slabs/soffits and beam-column connections. Additional rigorous structural and durability testing was performed to gain acceptances from various city, county and state departments of transportation. The Tyfo® system provides a cost-effective solution and low impact, fast-track completion for most structural deficiencies.
