Tyfo® Fibrwrap® systems are ideal for blast mitigation applications. Their large strain capacities provide ductility at an additional thickness of only a fraction of an inch. Tyfo® Fibrwrap® systems could be applied to embassies, chemical plants, petroleum plants, control rooms, grain storage/processing facilities and other structures to mitigate blast.
Structural members that can be enhanced include, but are not limited to, walls, columns, beams, slabs and roof panels.
Fibrwrap® blast wall systems are manufactured by Fibrwrap Composites Technology, Inc. (FCT), a Fyfe company. The blast resistance wall system is comprised of steel studs sheathed with an ultra ductile thin concrete board.
Shock tube testing has proven the system’s ability to resist pressures up to 30 psi at an impulse of 135 psi-ms. This is equivalent to 750 Ibs. of TNT at 83 ft. After three consecutive tests, the permanent deformation was only 1-1/8 inch.
These ultra-ductile blast resistant walls have typical wall thicknesses and weight and are easily constructed using conventional construction methods. The wall assembly can be finished with any type of material such as brick or stone.
